Styf is an offensive minded, two-way defenseman with average first steps, strong strides and very good acceleration and he can be difficult to stop when he reaches top speed. He shows active footwork, which helps him move effectively in every direction. He has the courage to step forward and try to seize the puck early from his opponents when they try to make a controlled breakout and has an aggressive way in his own zone, often staying tight on his man. While he has size and competes hard in his own zone, he could be more aggressive and get to the dirty areas more often. He wins a lot of tight situations and often comes out with the puck in control. He leaves small areas for the opponent’s forwards and uses his skating ability to be in the right positions all over the ice. He shows that he is a puck-carrying defenseman that sees the ice well and has the skill to move the puck up the ice and isn’t afraid to hold onto it going into the offensive zone. Although he has skills to take the puck from his own zone into the offensive zone, when he sets up a breakout or is in the offensive zone, he has nice and accurate passes to his teammates. He also has a good shot and is always ready to unleash it from anywhere on the ice. Overall, he balances offensive and defensive play well and could be a project a team will take a chance on.
