Fowler is considered a bit of a one-dimensional player and while he is an explosive skater, he needs to keep his feet moving more as he sometimes looks rather pedestrian and gets caught watching the play. He is an explosive type of skater who uses his skating ability to create space, but as good as his skating and passing vision is, his best asset may be his shot, which is heavy with an extremely quick release and high velocity. He makes some smart passing plays and seems to see the ice well in the offensive zone, finding a soft spot in coverage to exploit. He is a dangerous scorer who likes to get to the middle of the ice. He has a good hockey sense, which allows him to avoid contact and make plays that result in high quality scoring chances thanks to his quick hands. He can make quick and decisive decisions with the puck on his stick in the offensive zone.  He needs to work on his average defensive game as he gets lost in the play and rarely puts maximum effort in, preferring to float around and wait for the puck.  Inconsistency in his play is what makes him a frustrating prospect though and at times he often disappears within a game and then in the very same game, shows flashes of the brilliance he is capable of. If he can enhance his overall effort, he could be a good pro, but he needs to refine his game.
