Vierling is a very smart methodical type player who can think the game at a high level, putting himself in the best situations to score goals. Tremendous top end speed and the ability to play at elevated tempo. A beautiful skater with long, powerful strides and great foot speed that gives him top-end acceleration from a standing position. He shows the confidence and ability to make skill moves at top speed and doesn’t shy away from using dekes to make his defender miss. He shows great awareness and vision in the offensive end, using his feet to open passing lanes and create space for himself. While he doesn’t have the strongest shot, his quick release and ability to get himself into high danger scoring areas with puck control allows him to generate good scoring chances. He plays a bit of a laid back, mature game and contributes well in all zones, showing solid smarts, reading plays well and providing responsible support for his team.  He doesn’t quite have the same jump on the defensive side of the game, but his instincts and skating ability suggest he could be a bigger presence in his own end as he matures. Physically, he’s still behind the curve in his age group and can struggle in heavy, tight-checking games, but he doesn’t shy away from physical play and will fight through contact to make a positive play. He should add size and strength to his medium-sized frame to help with puck battles and getting pushed around.
