Bowen is a bull of a player when he wants to be but engaging himself is the key to his game. His feet stand to improve with growth as he’s not blessed with great agility or an explosive stride, using length to cover ground and struggling with the finer aspects of his skating. He isn’t a possession driving player as his overall skating ability lacks dynamic qualities. He’s not a great playmaker even though he can put the puck on sticks under pressure but is more of a heads-up shooter and battler low in the zone who is quick to redirect or make quick plays. He’s a got a quality shot and quickness to his release and he gets a lot of chances around the net due to his active stick. Despite not being a flashy play creator, he is strong at using quickness to identify opportunities to find soft coverage or get in on unprotected puck carriers so he could create turnovers or be in position to receive a pass. He seems disengaged when away from battles or the puck, bringing himself to pass up on defensive assignments or not aggressively pursue the puck if it was a low percentage that he could recover it. Defensively, he can make some of the routine plays with his reach and attentiveness to detail, but he lacks the jump or proactiveness of an elite two-way player. The inconsistencies in his play have been a common theme.
