A smaller forward with quick feet, Tinling has the ability to create separation for himself due to his skating ability. Even for a smaller player, he plays the game with a lot of energy and pace; he applies pressure while on the forecheck and tries to disrupt the other team’s transition game. His passing ability is a plus for him, he has the vision and the smarts to make decisive passes whenever he is given time and space. Where he runs into issues is when the opponents close in on him and force him to operate in tight spaces. His smaller frame makes it difficult to engage in physical battles, often times finding himself being overpowered by his opponents. Tends to be sloppy with the puck when he’s rushed, forcing plays or rushing his decision with the puck. His size and strength are the two main areas he needs to improve in, adding muscle to his frame will allow him to be more effective in 50/50 battles and allow him to get some extra power behind his shot. As one of the youngest players in the NCAA he will have plenty of time to work on his game, but his past production should put him on some team’s radars in the last rounds of the draft.
