Regional Roundtable: Evaluating Western Canada’s Crop in 2020

Known as a playmaking forward, he can be a bit weak on his skates and easy to knock off balance. He could improve on his speed and needs to keep his feet moving to keep up with the play as he often is caught trailing the play. He carries a long stride and has decent quickness when given a second to adjust and find his form. He is willing to fire shots from all angles on the ice but needs to work on not throwing bad passes out. Has an average shot but struggles to consistently hit the net and doesn’t seem to create many scoring chances when he shoots the puck without much thought. He has some skill in his stick and possesses a big reach to bring pucks cross body and change attack angles. Despite showing some flashes of offensive creativity and a hunger for the puck, his ability to carry play is often disrupted to overhandling and painting himself into corners.  His defensive play struggles because he seems to get caught out of position and trails the play. Needs to add weight and strength to his frame, which will help him in those puck battles he currently struggles with but isn’t afraid to get into. Doesn’t mind going to the dirty areas of the ice but not always able to keep up with the physical play. Needs to work on his play with and without the puck as well as his consistency.
