Gould is a big goalie — he’s got the height that gets the attention of NHL scouts — and he’s quick for his size but could be quicker overall. He adapts a sound style to fulfill the potential his frame allows. He’s not overly aggressive in the crease but cuts down angles well from the rush and limits excessive motion in his crease, keeping angles maintained and not cheating on plays. His butterfly layout is massive and when down on shots, he is tough to beat along the ice and he stays erect to the shooter to keep the top of the net closed off. He sees plays develop and can track pucks across seams, using a quick pad slide to get his toe on the puck and deflect rebounds to the corner. His glove hands are well positioned and there is a calmness and quickness to how he reacts to high shots. He doesn’t overextend himself and can snare and push pucks aside with his blocker out of harms way. He does spend a bit too much time on his knees to search for low pucks and plays the odds when he has traffic in front. His stick positioning could also be a bit more structured as that sometimes leaves his blocker behind when moving to his left. Rebound control is very sloppy, making it hard for him to calm things down around him and reduce chances against. Moves his head around to look through traffic, but still struggles with tracking the puck.
