An agile skater for his size, Trineyev is easy to notice on the ice because of his combination of size and skating, blazing around the ice with long, powerful strides. Plays on his toes quite a bit and doesn’t need much time or space to hit his top gear. Whether it’s on the rush, forechecking offensively or backchecking defensively, he’s usually using involved in the play and doing what he can to help his team. While he is a decent skater now, he does have a bit of an awkward technique that should improve when he grows into his body. However, he has trouble handling the puck at speed and his passing game lacks skill and vision, although he is generally aware of his linemates and overall game situations and knows how to find open passing lanes. He doesn’t possess the smoothest hands but goes to the net when not in puck possession where he is ready to battle for ice and rebounds. Can create havoc in front of the net with his presence and size. Takes on battles around the crease against older and tougher opponents. Can position himself effectively for screens or rebounds and that’s where his scoring instincts end. He will sometimes go to the dirty areas of the ice but doesn’t always dole out the physical play. He has a rawness to his skillset and would be a long-term project though his potential will increase once he puts more muscle on his frame.
