Roger is a smooth-skating defender who has a big frame and can navigate the ice with ease. He has good acceleration and is good at jumping into the rush to help contribute to the offensive game. Roger had an okay rookie season with the Knights in the OHL but was one of the many players who missed out on their draft year due to the pandemic. He had a good showing at the PBHH Erie Showcase, showing his skating ability and some above-average puckhandling skills. He’s at his best when he is able to contribute offensively, if team’s take away his ability to get in the rush he struggles to make an impact on the game. Defensively he isn’t bad, but he needs to work on his positional discipline in his own zone. As a bigger player he has the ability to get his stick into passing lanes and disrupt scoring chances, if he can master this ability and do it with some regularity then his defensive game will take a big leap forward. This class has a lot of bigger, mobile defenders and the lack of a season may hurt his stock when compared to others but Roger has appealing traits that could land him on a team’s draft list in the final rounds.
