A big center who plays a hard-hitting style and has a nose for the puck in all three zones of the ice. Boyd is a relentless forechecker, playing a dump and chase style of play that allows him to take advantage of his size and physicality. He has a wide base, allowing him to be strong on his feet but lacks high-level speed and acceleration which will cause him some issues keeping up with the pace of play. He has below average puck skills so he doesn’t provide much a threat when carrying the puck up and down the ice. Boyd will have to learn to process the game quicker, his decision making is a tad behind causing him to struggle to make much out of the opportunities he does create for himself or his teammates. If he can develop his mind and puck skills a little bit and learn to be more efficient with his aggressiveness he has the potential to turn into a solid fourth-line type of player. His defensive game is average but because of his eagerness to be physical all the time he can wander out of position in order to chase a bodycheck leaving his teammates out to dry at times. He has the potential to be drafted late in the draft and can carve out a role as a physical presence.
