His speedy, agile skating is the thing that immediately stands out about Stranges. While he utilizes the unique 10/2, “Tomahawk” skating style to weave through traffic and gain speed into open ice, it’s this combined with his silky-smooth hands that make him incredibly hard to pin down. Always an offensive threat on the ice due to his speed but must focus on getting to the dangerous areas of the ice to make the biggest impact. A dynamic forward with an explosive second gear and elite vision to find teammates whether they are open or in traffic. Nifty hands to dangle around defenders through traffic while maintaining possession and create separation, he has a quick and powerful pro wrist shot that has velocity. At times he can display inconsistency but when he is able to utilize his skills, he is able to create scoring chances with excellent vision and execution. He shows creative puck skills and always seems to be able to make something happen. The knock on him though, is his effort away from the puck and he doesn’t play an inspired defensive game. It’s not that he isn’t engaged, it’s that he often ends up chasing the puck and will need to focus on playing a better defensive game at the next level. The concern is with the inconsistencies in his game and if he can turn it up a notch for the next level. He is a playmaker and a goal scorer but needs to work on his overall consistency.
