Hreschuk is a steady presence on the blueline. He is a smooth skater who is strong on his edges. He’s able to create zone entries with his speed and is agile enough to navigate his way through traffic efficiently. He has a good sense of when to join the offense on a rush and understands where to be in order to be an effective passing option. A competent puck distributor, he has poise and vision with his passing ability. That ability comes from some really excellent habits with the puck, keeping it in his pocket and being able to open up his hips to really give him wide-open angles for his passes. This also allows him to be slightly deceptive. Rarely panics under pressure. Does a good job getting to the middle of the blueline to take his shots for a better scoring chance. His smarts and poise make him a really solid two-way player, and someone who is excellent on the backcheck. His skating and ability to open his hips wide allows him to be really mobile east-west and kill opposing rushes with poke checks and a great gap. He is able to rub opponents out physically and makes it difficult to get to the dangerous areas of his defensive zone. Defends well off the rush because of his anticipation and ability to match his opponents stride for stride, gain inside position and angle them away from the play. Defends well in his own slot given his physicality and ability to read the play. Breaks up plays around the home-plate area. Consistently makes the right play, but won’t blow you away with anything flashy. His passes consistently hit their mark, but are mostly basic passes that help his team advance the play. Hreschuk provides a calm, consistent presence on the blue line in all situations for his team, and this could translate really well to the next level as a solid fourth or fifth defender.
