Owen Griffin puts on a show, and other draft eligibles pushing in playoffs
Owen Griffin may not be one of the headliners for the 2025 NHL Draft, but his play in the postseason should grab him some extra attention.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder had a nice jump in production in his second season with Oshawa in the Ontario Hockey League, going from a modest six points (one goal, five assists) in 2023-24 to 51 points (22 goals, 29 assists) in his draft-eligible season.
Griffin has found another level in the postseason, too. The 17-year-old has exploded with 12 points (six goals, six assists) in six games — leading Oshawa in scoring in their first-round matchup with Brampton, besting first-round picks like Beckett Sennecke, Colby Barlow, and Calum Ritchie.
“Griffin is a strong skater with capable two-way ability, allowing him to move around in the lineup and contribute effectively on special teams,” FCHockey regional scout Joseph Aleong said. “He has quick feet and good agility, accelerating quickly to help him win puck races and pressure opposing defenders on the forecheck. Griffin has the skating ability and two-way smarts to eventually become a depth player in the pros.”
Here’s who else impressed this week:
Jakob Ihs-Wozniak | Luleä HF (J18 Nationell)
Jakob Ihs Wozniak has bounced around much of the season, producing in his draft-eligible year between international play, the Swedish Hockey League and J20 Nationell. He put up 57 points (23 goals, 34 assists) in J20 and was a point-per-game player with 20 points (12 goals, eight assists) in as many games internationally. He also managed to find the scoresheet twice with a goal and an assist in 13 SHL games.
Ihs-Wozniak, no. 38 in FCHockey’s Spring ranking for the 2025 draft, has returned to J18 Nationell for postseason play and is enjoying quite the ride. The 18-year-old had seven points (one goal, six assists) in three games last week, with the highlight coming Saturday when he registered four assists in a 5-3 win for his club.
Cole Reschny | Victoria Royals (WHL)
Center Cole Reschny started the playoffs on a heater and has kept it going. After scoring five points (three goals, two assists) in the opening two games of the Western Hockey League quarterfinal with Victoria versus Tri-City, Reschny added seven points (one goal, six assists) in three additional games.
Reschny fired 17 shots on goal during the week. He scored his lone goal on the power play, and picked up four assists on Saturday when Victoria ended the series in Game 5.
Linus Funck | Luleä HF (J18 Nationell)
Linus Funck has found a way to contribute offensively from the back end all season long, and his production is continuing into the playoffs. The 6-foot-3 defenseman played 48 games with Lulea HF in J20 Nationell, registering 28 points (five goals, 23 assists).
Funck, the no. 53 ranked skater at FCHockey, returned to J18 Nationell for the playoffs and has shown why he was too good to play there this season. The 17-year-old registered six points (three goals, three assists) in three games last week. He didn’t find the scoresheet in his team’s overtime loss on Thursday, but proceeded to score two goals on six shots while adding an assist on Saturday. He polished off the weekend with a goal on his lone shot of the game and a pair of assists in a 6-1 win.
