NHL provides Draft, Combine update

The National Hockey League provided an update on the status of the 2020 NHL Draft and 2020 NHL Scouting Combine on Monday.

“At this time, no decisions have been made regarding the timing or format of the NHL Draft or Combine,” the NHL said in a wide-ranging update Monday.

The draft is scheduled take place at Bell Centre in Montreal on June 26-27.

The NHL Scouting Combine is scheduled for May 31-June 6 at KeyBank Center and Harborcenter in Buffalo, New York.

Concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly altered leagues and events around the world.

The 2020 World Under-18 Championship, one of the biggest scouting showcases of the season featuring draft eligible prospects from Canada, United States, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Germany, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belarus and Latvia, was cancelled on March 13. It was originally schedule to take place in Plymouth, MI from April 16-26.

The cancellation came one day after the NHL paused its season March. 12.

The Canadian Hockey League, including the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, cancelled the remainder of its regular season on Wednesday.

Seasons in Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and Switzerland were halted. The NCAA playoffs were also nixed, and the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia, as well as Russia junior leagues, have been suspended through April 10.
