NHL Central Scouting unveils midterm ranking for 2025 NHL Draft
Matthew Schaefer, a projected top pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, is No. 1 amongst North American skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s midterm ranking released Tuesday.
Schaefer is No. 1 in FCHockey’s Winter ranking for the 2025 draft.
The 17-year-old from Erie of the Ontario Hockey League has 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in 17 games this season, but will miss at least the next couple months because of a broken clavicle sustained representing Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.
James Hagens of Boston College, No. 2 in FCHockey’s ranking, trails Schaefer on Central Scouting’s list. Michael Misa of Saginaw in the OHL, Porter Martone of Brampton in the OHL and Roger McQueen of Brandon in the Western Hockey League rounds out the top of Central Scouting’s North American skater list.
Victor Eklund of Djurgarden in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second division, is No. 1 among International skaters.
Eklund, FCHockey’s top-ranked European player, has 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 25 games this season, and added six points (two goals, four assists) in seven games for Sweden at the World Juniors. He is the brother of William Eklund, who was selected by the San Jose Sharks with the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
Anton Frondell of Djurgarden, Ivan Ryabkin, who is with Muskegon in the United States Hockey League after starting the season in Russia in Dynamo Moskva’s system, Milton Gastrin of Modo in J20 Nationell, Sweden’s top junior division, and Vojtech Cihar of Karlovy Vary in Czechia’s top professional men’s league round out the top of Central Scouting’s list of International skaters.
Joshua Ravensbergen of Prince George in the WHL is Central Scouting’s top-ranked North American goalie, and Pyotr Andreyanov of CSKA in the MHL, Russia’s top junior league, is the top-ranked International goaltender.
