Lafreniere nabs Michael-Bossy nod

Alexis Lafreniere was named the recipient of the Michael-Bossy Trophy as the QMJHL’s best professional prospect, the league announced Friday.

Lafreniere, the consensus top pick for the 2020 NHL Draft, has previously captured the Jean-Believeau Trophy as the leading scorer of the league with 112 points (35 goals, 77 assists) and the Paul-Dumont Trophy as personality of the year on Tuesday.

“He has done nothing but impress this season, solidifying himself as the top prospect of his class with incredible performances at every level,” Quebec-based FC Hockey scout Andy Lehoux said. “Displaying his amazing hockey IQ, spectacular stick-handling abilities and sensational playmaking skills, he quickly became one of the most exciting prospect to watch.

“His dominance at both the international and junior level was as entertaining as it was impressive, leaving countless fans and scouts in awe with some of his accomplishment. His remarkable development was just as thrilling, as he polished his game into an outstanding playmaker and one of the most electrifying prospects in recent years.”

Also nominated for the award was Dawson Mercer and Hendrix Lapierre of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

Lafreniere, who was named Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year last season, also helped Canada to gold at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship in January.

The 18-year-old topped FC Hockey’s Spring ranking for the 2020 draft.
